How does Transition work for Outlaw Original Aquabike?

Modified on Mon, 15 Dec, 2025 at 12:12 PM

Once you have registered and collected your Race Pack please put your security wristband on your wrist as a bracelet (you will need this for access to transition at all times) and apply your bike frame sticker to the seat post your bike. Both of these need to be done before you can access the transition area. Spectators are not allowed in the transition area at any time.

The Transition area is located alongside the lake, a short walk from the Event Village through the wooded area.

You will need to rack your bike, on your numbered spot, on Saturday. Please don't leave anything else with your bike. Any nutrition that you leave overnight will be stripped by the local crows!

For this event there is a Change Tent in Transition and also a separate Dry Bag Tent for your post race bag, which is on the left as you walk to Transition from the Event Village. Within the change tent there will be single sex changing areas for full kit changes. For those just changing footwear or wanting to sit and refuel there will be benches lining the sides of the tent.

You will be provided with 2 transition bags at registration:

  • Swim to bike
  • Kit bag for you dry clothes after you finish.

You will have a numbered hook in each tent. You can leave your bags on Saturday if you wish, but most athletes like to check their kit the night before the race.

You should bring at least one bottle Sunday morning, with enough fluid/nutrition to last you until the first feed station at 22.5 miles.

Please make sure that you allow plenty of time for the 5 minute walk to get to the start as we cannot allow athletes to start after the race has begun.

As an Aquabike athlete, your race will finish when you come back into transition from the bike, this is when your time will stop. Please rack your bike and then when you are ready for your orange carpet finish, keeping your number on, exit via the run exit channel at the far end of transition, do a U-turn onto the perimeter road and walk to the finish line to collect your medal and t-shirt!

Transition stays open all day (for relay access), but once racing begins, entry and exit are via a single point near the Event Village.

If on the day you have lost your chip/race number/wristband/swim hat or have any other race morning emergency, our Customer Service Manager will be at the Transition Check In point closest to the Event Village with what we affectionately call the 'Oh My God!' box. We have dealt with all sorts over the years including failed wetsuits, forgotten bike shoes (bit more difficult), split hats, lost chips and incorrectly applied security wristbands, so don't panic, just breathe and come and see us. If we can get you to the start line we will. There is also a smaller OMG box at swim start that can deal with swim hat or goggle failure.
